Spamming is a widespread problem over the web. Most users of the internet hate being spammed and yet surprisingly, it is still a persistent problem that is getting worse and worse as e-commerce flourishes.
What is Spamming?
Any type of unsolicited email sent to a recipient can be considered as a spam. Many advertisers promote their businesses using email marketing. Unfortunately, many people receive advertising emails that they didn’t sign up for. Why?
Online merchants usually purchase mailing lists from brokers and mailing list sellers. Some brokers and mailing list companies collect unsolicited email addresses and sell them to advertisers for a cheaper price.
If you have received an advertising mail in your inbox that you haven’t subscribed to, then you have been a victim of spamming. But did you know that spamming is not just limited to emails?
Some advertisers use online communities and forums to post links to their website. They leave irrelevant comments to spread thousands of links to their site at different places on the web.
Others do spamming using an autoresponder. When you sign up for their newsletter, you will automatically receive a separate advertising mail in your box everyday, leaving your inbox filled with junk mails.
Yes, all these tactics are considered as spamming. As long as the recipient did not give permission to receive the email and yet receives it, that email is a spam. But how can you avoid these unwanted emails? Here are practical steps that you can do to avoid getting spammed:
Use filters.
Even free e-mail accounts have built-in spam filters. However, these free filters may not be able to recognize each and every spam mail in your inbox. If you can get a paid spam filter, they are more efficient in blocking out spam mails from invading your email account.
Do not respond to a spam.
When you receive an unsolicited e-mail, what should you do? The best thing to do is delete the email immediately. Don’t even bother to open it as some emails may contain worms or viruses that can destroy your system. Never respond to a spam mail. It would be no use to request the advertiser to remove you from the list. Since you were sent the email without your permission, obviously the advertiser will only continue to send you mails if they know that their mails are being read.
Don’t use a personal e-mail account.
If you want to sign up for social communities or forums, don’t use your personal email account. Create a separate email account that you will only use for social interactions online.
Don’t do it.
If you’re a home business owner or an internet seller, don’t spam. Never send an unsolicited email to anyone, even if you know their email address without first getting their permission.

I tried to open one spam email before. And unfortunately, I lost all of the files I have in my computer. Too bad.
