For many people, their laptops serve two purposes- personal and business. Some people can’t survive the day without a laptop. Businessmen, yuppies, students, retirees, and even moms can be seen walking the streets with these handy computers.

Regardless of what you do or what your job is, having a laptop makes tasks a lot more convenient and simple. In response to the growing number of laptop users, many internet shops and even coffee shops today offer wireless internet connections. Thus, wherever you are, you can be sure that you can go online and do your business at any time.

Consequences of Carrying a Laptop

Just like any other portable gadget or devices, there is the chance that it could be misplaced or stolen. Water accidents are also common for laptop users. For instance, you may accidentally spill water or coffee on your laptop while you’re busy or absorbed in your work.

Obviously, water and electronic devices don’t go together. When water seeps inside your laptop’s circuit board, it can create more damage than you think. Aside from the need to buy a new one, the worst thing that could happen is losing or damaging all the files stored in your laptop’s memory.

The best way to avoid water accidents is to keep your laptop away from water at all times. However, when such an accident happens, what can you do? How can you save your wet laptop from a complete breakdown? Here are some tips:

Unplug your laptop from the power source immediately. Don’t even bother to shut down the system, just unplug the cable from the power source right away.

Take the battery out. Take out other plug ‘n play devices that are connected to your laptop as well (flash disk, memory cards, cds or dvds, printers, webcam, headset, keyboard, mouse etc). Make sure that each component is dry or use a clean piece of cloth to dry them with.

Check your laptop’s warranty. If it’s still covered by the warranty period, bring it to the manufacturer’s customer service office immediately. If the warranty period has elapsed, here are some steps that you can follow:

Let as much liquid out by placing your laptop upside down. Unbolt the screws to expose the inner area of your laptop. Use a clean, dry, and soft piece of cloth to wipe the unit.

Leave your laptop uncovered and let it dry for at least two days. Be sure to keep all the screws in a safe place. Do not try to turn on or use your laptop.

After two days, return the cover and make sure that all the screws are correctly in place. Take your laptop to a professional computer technician to see if there has been any serious damage done.
