Internet marketing is only effective when the steps are done right. Otherwise, you may find that your time and efforts are wasted without getting the results you expect. Here are ten internet marketing strategy mistakes that must be avoided.

1)Slow download time. If your website takes a long time to download, you’ll most likely be losing your prospects. People simply don’t have the time, and the patience to wait for a site to completely load. If your site takes an entire a minute to complete, viewers will close their browser or check out a different website immediately.

2)Using complex programs. Does your website make use of flash programs? If so, make sure there is an HTML version available. Not all internet users have Macromedia Flash on their computer.

3)Focusing solely on internet marketing. Internet marketing is a great tool in promoting your business. However, don’t forget the importance of offline marketing as well. Not everyone spends their time online and not everyone is familiar with your website.

4)Overlooking the importance of search engine listings. Enlisting in search engines and directories can take some of your time but it’s all worth it. If people can’t find your website on major search engines, you’re missing a big opportunity of reaching out to your target market.

5)Not updating your website. If you’re not updating your website, you’ll be losing your customers and you won’t be making new customers either. The online competition is tough and if you want to keep up with other online businesses, you have to constantly provide fresh content on your site.

6)Partnering with the wrong affiliations. Not all affiliates online are worthy of your alliance. Before signing up with any affiliate company, make sure you’ve done enough research on the company’s background.

7)Imposing complicated procedures. Make sure that everything on your website is simple and easy to follow. For instance, if a person wants to subscribe to your newsletter, don’t make him fill-up an entire page of information. Providing his name and email address should be enough to get him signed up on your newsletter.

8)Overlooking the power of viral marketing. Viral marketing is the power of “word of mouth” done online. Including recommendation buttons on every page of your website can make a big difference for your online business. Buttons such as “forward this”, “share this”, or “invite a friend” are just some examples of viral marketing tools every online marketer should use.

9)Not having an opt-in list. Everytime an internet user visits your site, take the opportunity to ask for their e-mail. When they voluntarily provide their e-mail address, you can send them updates without spamming.

10)Never spam. Don’t be tempted to send an e-mail that is unsolicited. Always ask permission first before sending to an e-mail. When a customer subscribes to your newsletter, make sure that there is an “unsubscribe” button if they want to be taken out of your list. Furthermore, don’t bombard your subscriber with too many e-mails that they would want to unsubscribe. Send only e-mails at right intervals.

If you are familiar with online marketing, then perhaps you’re aware of what spam is and how it is done. Since most home based businesses are also promoted over the internet, entrepreneurs try to find ways on how they can reach out to a wider range of audience. Sadly, some internet merchants resort to spamming as one of their marketing tactics. If you’re a home based business owner, should you try out this same technique? The answer of course is one big No.

“Spamming” is sending out messages or emails to people without first asking for their permission. Even worse, spammers send out these unsolicited emails repeatedly to the same recipients just to get their attention. Spammers are hoping to get noticed, to get recognized, or even make a sale from sending out unsolicited emails. Aside from personal email addresses, they also use online communities and forum boards to post off-topic messages that disrupt the discussion.

Why Spamming is a Bane to Home Based Business

Obviously, spamming isn’t considered as a good business practice. In fact, online marketers are strongly discouraged from using “spam” as one way to advertise the business. Why? Spamming is an ineffective tactic because everyone hates unsolicited ads. Instead of attracting potential clients to patronize your business, spamming would be like driving them away on purpose.

Wouldn’t you hate it if your inbox becomes filled with advertising emails that you’ve never signed up for? Wouldn’t you be angry if a stranger enters your home and tries to sell you something without first knocking on your door? In concept, spamming is a lot like breaking through someone’s home without the owner’s consent. Needless to say, you wouldn’t want your home based business to be part of any campaign that is related to spamming.

Avoid Spam – Build Your Own List

One way to build up your own mailing list is by offering a newsletter from your website. If a person signs up to be part of your newsletter mailing list, then that means you can freely send them e-zines and updates.

Nevertheless, be careful about using your mailing list abusively. Don’t send too many emails that could take up too much space in their inbox. If you promised to deliver weekly or monthly newsletter, stick with your schedule. Respect the privacy of your prospects and never give out or sell out their email addresses to other merchants or for other purposes.

By creating your opt-in list, you can be sure that the people who signed up for your newsletter are genuinely interested in what you have to offer and they are willing to receive more information from you. But of course, winning their confidence takes more than just asking for their permission.

Make sure that emails or the messages that you would be sending are relevant and useful for your audience. Don’t send out emails that contain propaganda or pure advertising humbug that are a waste of time to read. By using decent marketing tactics to promote your business, not only do you attract more customers, you are also building up a good reputation for your company.

If you are a mother with kids to take care of, perhaps you may be thinking of a way to earn additional income for your family. In this article, let’s about how you can start your own home business and some tips on how you can succeed.

How can you start your own homebased business?

Many successful home based entrepreneurs started out from what they love to do. Do you have a favorite pastime or a knack for creating things? Do you like to quilt, crochet, or embroider? If yes, why not start your own handmade craft business and sell your creations to the market? Many people today prefer to buy handmade crafts by independent artisans because they are known for best quality compared to bulk products sold in stores.

Do you enjoy going to yard sales or flea market? If yes, then why not start your own antique or vintage shop online? You can find really good finds at flea markets for a cheap price and resell them online. Many people who collect antique, vintage or unique items search from the internet.

Is photography your passion? Why not turn your passion into business by starting your own home based photography services. Sell your photos or offer you services to people who want to hire a photographer for special occasions like weddings, graduation, debut, anniversaries, etc.

Are you good in writing? Then perhaps you can write your own children’s book or self-help book or a novel and use the internet to promote it. Or you can also offer writing services for internet merchants who need ghost writers to market their own companies.

Meeting the Challenges

Whether you plan to sell products or offer services, you need to know exactly who your target market is. Knowing your niche can help you decide which marketing strategies will be most effective in generating a positive response from your market. It also enables you to focus your marketing tactics on a specific group of prospects. Ask yourself, who are most likely to buy the products or services that you offer?

As a mother who runs a business, you will need to organize your time wisely to be more effective in performing your responsibilities for your family and your business. Truly, it is a big challenge to manage a business and take care of your family at the same. However, you can take inspiration from the experiences of successful home business entrepreneurs who are also moms just like you.

The important thing is to plan and prepare before plunging in your chosen field of business. Don’t be afraid to ask help or advice from those who are already experienced in this career path. Always consider the pros and cons of things before making a decision or taking action.

Many people are hesitant about starting their own business because they don’t have enough start-up capital. But even for established business owners, running a business is not just about the money. Below are some practical tips for a manager of a growing small business:

Analyze the business
If you think you’re ready for expansion, then you need to take a closer look at all areas of your business before proceeding with the plan. Aside from the budget, you need to set a proper plan to make sure that you’ll be ready for the next challenges that will come your way.

Preparing your finances.
To expand the business, you may need to rent a new place, hire more workers, buy additional equipment, etc. Obviously, you need to be financially ready to push through with your plans. If you need to apply for a loan, do the necessary preparations to ensure your loan’s approval.

Looking for new opportunities.

A growing business will of course expand its target market. Conducting market research is a very important step to avoid making the wrong decisions. If you’re introducing your brand to an entire new market in a new location, then doing feasibility studies is a must.

Learning from your competitors.
Observing your competition and learning from their success will contribute to your own. Again, conducting market research is recommended in order for you to get to know your competition.

Targeting a wider market.
As a growing business, expanding your target market is your primarily goal. Even if you are not launching your business in a new location, you can expand your target market or your niche by offering more products and services.

Can you deliver?
In order to expand, you need to be able to keep your old and loyal customers. Acquiring new customers would be useless if you end up losing your existing customer base. Therefore, establishing strong customer relationships is vital to your success. See to it that you can deliver to your promises and that all customers are happy about your service.

consider a photography business? Do you love taking pictures? If you enjoy taking photographs as a hobby, then you have a potential of becoming a successful photography home business owner.

If you’re an amateur photographer, you can take photography classes to hone your skills even more. The fact is, both amateur and professional photographers can make money out of a photography business.

Starting A Photography Business
You may ask, “Would I need a big budget to start out a business in photography?” The answer is no. Compared to other business ventures, a photography business doesn’t require huge financing.

First, the products you will sell will be the photos you’ve taken. This type of business doesn’t require an office space or a storage space. All you need to do is invest in a quality digital or professional camera to get started. A reliable computer system and an internet connection are also basic investments for a photography business.

Selling at Photography Websites
One important aspect about a photography business that you should research on is your target market. Where will you sell your photos? Knowing who your target market is will help you determine the kinds of photos to prepare.

For example, if you want to sell photos to a greeting card company, perhaps you may focus on sceneries, people, or animals as your subjects. Your photos should be able to illustrate greeting card messages or express feelings written on the card. Hence, knowing who to sell your photos to will give you an advantage.

If you want to sell your photos online, you can sign up with stock photography or royalty free websites. You should carefully read and understand the guidelines or the photography criteria to make sure that the photos you’ll submit will be accepted.

What is the difference between a stock photography site and a royalty free websites? A stock photography website sells exclusive photos which means no copies of the same photos will be sold to other clients. On the other hand, a royalty free site allows redistribution of the photos for a lower price. Photographers usually earn more commission from royalty free sites than a stock photography website because of the wider range of distribution.

If you do decide to be in a photography business, always make sure that your photos are of the highest quality. If you want to impress advertisers, you should never settle for mediocre shots especially if you plan to sell online. Remember, if you want to keep up with the competition, you’ll need to be able to deliver high quality photos all the time.
